Senior Housing Programs

There are several housing programs available in California that are specifically designed to help seniors, or individuals over the age of 62, afford safe, decent, and accessible housing. These programs may provide financial assistance, such as rental subsidies or down payment assistance, or they may offer supportive services to help seniors live independently in their own homes.

Here are a few examples of housing programs for seniors in California:

Section 202 Supportive Housing for the Elderly

This program provides funding to nonprofit organizations to develop and operate affordable housing for seniors with very low incomes. The housing must provide supportive services, such as meals, transportation, and social and recreational activities, to help seniors live independently.

This program provides financial assistance to low-income seniors to help them pay for their home energy needs, such as heating and cooling.

The program is administered by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, but it is implemented at the state level through the California Department of Community Services and Development (CSD).

California Department of Aging

The California Department of Aging administers several programs that provide housing assistance and supportive services to seniors, including the Multifamily Housing Program and the Senior Housing Assistance Program. These programs provide funding to develop and operate affordable housing for seniors and provide supportive services to help seniors live independently.

California Department of Housing and Community Development

The California Department of Housing and Community Development (HCD) administers several programs that provide housing assistance to seniors, including the Senior Citizens Renters Assistance Program (SCRAP) and the Farmworker and Low-Income Housing Asset Fund (FLHAF). These programs provide financial assistance to help seniors afford rental housing and support the development and preservation of affordable housing for low-income seniors.
